Extension of courts’ jurisdiction hailed
GHALANAI: The political leaders have welcomed the extension of jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and Peshawar High Court to Fata and said that it is the first step towards implementation of the Fata reforms package. They were addressing mediapersons at the Mohmand Press Club the other day. ANP Mohmand president Nisar Mohmand, JUI-F emir Maulana Mohammad Arif Haqqani, PPP leader Arshad Bakhtiar, PML-N’s Haji Behram Khan, PML-Q’s Malik Azmat Khan, Mohmand Welfare Organisation president Mir Afzal Mohmand and others spoke on the occasion. ANP’s Nisar Mohmand said it was because of the formation of Fata Seyasi Ittehad that tribal parliamentarians had taken the issue of Fata reforms in the National Assembly. He said through the extension of superior courts’ jurisdiction to Fata violations of human rights would be prevented there. He demanded that Fata should be immediately merged into KP. JUI-F’s Arif Haqqani said extension of courts’ jurisdiction would ensure basic rights to tribesmen. “Problems of tribesmen will be resolved when FCR and article 247 will be abolished,” he added.
He said his party opposed Fata’s merger into KP, and not the reforms process. He demanded that local bodies’ elections should be held in the area so that tribesmen’s problems could be resolved at the local level. Speaking on the occasion, PML-N’s Behram Khan said the incumbent government in the centre had initiated the Fata reforms process to bring the region into the mainstream. He said political leadership should not do politics on the matter. PPP leader Arshad Bakhtiyar claimed that it was the previous PPP government which had started the reforms in Fata. He opined that the present PML-N-led government was not sincere with the tribesmen. PML-Q’s Malik Azmat said that they wanted complete Abolishment of FCR and merger of Fata into KP.
